Department of English of Arya College in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell( IQAC) Ludhiana organised a Literary Speech Contest ‘Talking Titans’. As many as 15 students from different streams participated in the contest . In her welcome address, Ms. Kumud Chawla Dean Arts Faculty and Head Department of English said that the competition has been organised to state the beauty of literature through the immortal speeches of famous literary characters and show how literature has the capacity to relieve the stressed minds by giving a healthy vent to our emotions.Secretary ACMC Mrs. Satisha Sharma appreciated the spirit of the students with which they gave life to literary characters with their emotionally charged speeches. Principal Dr. Suksham Ahluwalia said that literature is the art of discovering something extraordinary in ordinary human beings and added that she was overwhelmed to listen to the famous speeches of life size characters from literature. Ms. Pooja Gaur from Department of Commerce and Ms. Charu Sharma from the Department of Political Science were the judges for the contest. In the competition, one of the students presented a speech by Shylock from the play Merchant of Venice while another student came up with Marc Antony’s speech from the play Julius Caesar, one more student presented dramatic monologue ‘O Captain , My Captain’ by Walt Whitman and in this way many more famous literary speeches were presented on the stage which made those characters alive before the audience. In the contest Radhika of B Com was adjudged First , Lalit of B A l secured Second Position , Divanshi of B Com I and Divyanshu of B A l received Third Prizes. Appreciation Prize was given to Sakshi of B Sc II and Gaurav of BA l st Year. Congratulating the prize winners, Principal Dr.Suksham Ahluwalia applauded the efforts of Ms. Kumud Chawla and her entire team for the successful conduct of the programme.
